Gutter Replacement in Cork at a Glance
- Munster Gutters has been replacing gutters across Cork city and county since 2010, covering everything from suburban estates in Ballincollig and Douglas to Victorian terraces in Montenotte and coastal homes in Cobh and Kinsale.
- A full gutter replacement on a typical Cork semi-detached house costs between €1,000 and €1,400 for uPVC, rising to €2,100 to €2,800 for cast iron; larger or detached homes run higher.
- Every replacement job carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee and a Lifetime Leak Guarantee, and you get a written, fixed price before any work begins.
- Cork's Atlantic rainfall, salt air along the coast, and streets of original cast-iron guttering make a proper survey essential before committing to a material or a price.
- Repair is always the honest recommendation where faults are localised; replacement only makes sense when problems are spread across the whole run or the fascia behind the gutter has failed.
If your gutters are rusting through, sagging away from the fascia, or overflowing every time a west-Cork downpour rolls in off the Atlantic, you have probably reached the point where patching no longer pays. Gutter replacement is one of the most common jobs we handle across Cork, and this guide covers what it costs in 2026, the signs that tell you it is time, the materials worth considering, and how the job actually runs on a Cork home.
Signs you need a full replacement, not another repair
A single leaking joint or one dropped bracket is a repair. Replacement becomes the sensible spend when problems are spread across the whole run. Watch for these five signs:
- Rust and corrosion streaking down cast-iron gutters, especially near the coast where salt air eats metal faster than it does inland.
- Sagging or pulling away from the fascia, where the brackets and the timber behind them have both given up.
- Joints leaking in several places at once, a sign the whole uPVC system has gone brittle with age and UV exposure.
- Water overflowing the front edge in heavy rain even after a clean, which usually means the gutter has lost its fall or is undersized for Cork rainfall.
- Fascia and soffit rot behind the gutter, soft or stained timber that tells you water has been getting in for a long time.
If you are seeing two or more of these, a gutter repair is usually throwing good money after bad. Where it is just one isolated fault, we will always tell you that a repair is the cheaper and right call.
Choosing the material: uPVC, aluminium or cast iron
Most Cork homes are replaced in one of three materials.
- uPVC is the everyday choice: affordable, light, and available in black, grey, brown and white to match your existing trim. It suits the vast majority of suburban semis and estates and gives the best value for money.
- Aluminium is the premium upgrade and the sensible choice for exposed or coastal properties. It has fewer joints than uPVC, which matters in a wet, windy county, and marine-grade options stand up well to the salt air around Cobh, Kinsale and Clonakilty.
- Cast iron is the right answer on Victorian and Georgian properties where planning, conservation or simple appearance calls for a like-for-like match. We both install new cast-iron guttering and restore existing runs. On period terraces in Montenotte, Sunday's Well and the Cork city centre, cast iron is often the only appropriate choice, and a well-maintained cast-iron system can last 60 to 80 years or more.
We will walk you through the trade-offs for your house rather than push the dearest option. Where cast-iron looks without cast-iron cost makes sense, we can also fit cast-iron-effect aluminium.
Gutter replacement costs in Cork, 2026
Every house is different, but the table below gives honest Cork ranges for 2026. You get a written, fixed price after a free survey, so nothing changes on completion.
| Material | Typical semi-detached (~20 m) | Larger or detached (~50 m) |
|---|---|---|
| uPVC | €1,000, €1,400 | €2,900, €3,600 |
| Aluminium | €1,300, €1,800 | €3,600, €4,500 |
| Cast iron (period or conservation) | €2,100, €2,800 | €5,500, €6,500 |
These figures include removing and disposing of the old system, new brackets, downpipes and outlets. A large or particularly complex property can run higher. What moves the price within each band is the size of the house, access, the number of downpipes, and how much fascia timber needs replacing behind the gutter before anything new goes up.
For a separate gutter repair rather than a full replacement, costs are structured differently. See our guide to gutter repair costs in Cork and Limerick for a full breakdown by type of fault.
How the replacement job runs
A full replacement is more than swapping the gutter. We strip the old system, inspect the fascia and soffit behind it, and replace any rotten timber before anything new goes up. New brackets are fixed to sound timber at correct centres, the run is set to a proper fall toward the downpipes, new sections are fitted and sealed, and downpipes are renewed and directed cleanly away from the foundations. On an average Cork house it is a one to two day job. We finish with a full test under running water so you see it working before we leave.

Why Cork gutters fail faster than most
Cork puts more strain on guttering than most of the country. Homes along the coast, from Blackrock out to Cobh and beyond to Kinsale and Clonakilty, sit in salt-laden air that corrodes metal gutters and fixings years ahead of inland houses. West Cork and the higher ground catch some of the heaviest rainfall in Ireland, so undersized or poorly-fallen gutters overflow and the constant water load drags brackets loose over time. Cork city has street after street of Victorian terraces with original cast-iron gutters and shared valleys between neighbours, where one failing length can push water into the house next door. Each situation calls for a different approach, which is why a survey matters before you commit to a full replacement.
Gutter replacement across Cork city and county
We cover Cork city and county with a local team. We work throughout Ballincollig, Douglas and Glanmire, along with Blackrock, Bishopstown, Blackpool, Mayfield, Montenotte, Turners Cross and Cobh. The suburban estates in Ballincollig, Douglas and Bishopstown are mostly uPVC replacements, while the older homes in Montenotte, Sunday's Well and Blackpool often carry cast iron that needs a heritage-sensitive approach. We also work across the county towns: Midleton, Mallow, Fermoy, Kinsale, Clonakilty, Bantry, Skibbereen and Youghal. For more detail on guttering work across the county, see our Cork guttering page.
Replace or repair? How to decide
If the faults are localised and the fascia behind them is sound, a repair is the right and far cheaper call. Widespread rust, repeated leaks in different spots, sagging along the whole run, and rotten fascia all point to a system that is past patching, and a full gutter replacement becomes the better spend. Sometimes the honest answer is neither yet, and a good gutter clean buys you another season while you plan. You should not have to guess. A free inspection settles it, and we give you a straight recommendation rather than the dearest option.

Frequently asked questions
How much does gutter replacement cost on a semi-detached house in Cork?
A typical Cork semi-detached with around 20 metres of guttering costs €1,000 to €1,400 for uPVC, €1,300 to €1,800 for aluminium, or €2,100 to €2,800 for cast iron. The price includes removing the old system, new brackets, downpipes and outlets. You get a written, fixed price after a free survey.
What is the best gutter material for a Cork home?
uPVC is the right choice for most suburban Cork homes: it is affordable, easy to maintain and comes in a range of colours. Aluminium is better for coastal properties around Cobh, Kinsale or Clonakilty where salt air is a factor. Cast iron is usually kept on Victorian and Georgian homes, or where a conservation area requires a like-for-like match.
How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement?
A repair is the right call when the fault is in one place and the rest of the run is sound. Replacement makes sense when you have rust, sagging or leaks across the whole run, or when the fascia timber behind the gutter has rotted. A free inspection gives you a clear answer without any pressure to spend more than the house needs.
Do you replace the fascia and soffit at the same time as the gutters?
Often, yes. Once the old gutter is off we inspect the timber behind it. On many Cork homes, years of overflow have left the fascia soft or rotten, and there is little point fitting new gutters to failing timber. Where it needs doing we replace the fascia and soffit at the same time and give you one complete gutter line.
How long does a gutter replacement take on a Cork house?
On a typical semi-detached it is a one to two day job, covering removal of the old system, fascia inspection, fitting new brackets and gutters to a proper fall, renewing downpipes, and a water test before we leave. Larger or multi-storey homes with difficult access can take a little longer.
What guarantee do I get on a gutter replacement?
Every replacement carries a 10-year workmanship guarantee. Any job involving a gutter replacement also carries our Lifetime Leak Guarantee. Manufacturer warranties on materials come on top. Repair work carries a minimum of 3 years, and up to 10 on major repairs.
Do you work in my area of Cork?
We cover Cork city and the whole county, including Ballincollig, Douglas, Glanmire, Blackrock, Bishopstown, Montenotte, Cobh, Midleton, Mallow, Fermoy, Kinsale, Clonakilty, Bantry, Skibbereen and Youghal, among others.
Why do gutters fail more quickly in Cork than elsewhere?
Salt air along the coast accelerates corrosion on metal gutters and fixings. Cork also receives some of the heaviest rainfall in Ireland, which puts constant load on brackets and quickly reveals any problem with fall or sizing. In Cork city, shared valleys between Victorian terraces mean one failing section can affect neighbouring properties too.
Can you restore existing cast-iron gutters instead of replacing them?
Yes. Where cast iron is corroded but structurally repairable, restoration is often the better and more economical option than full replacement. We will tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense after inspecting the existing system.
Do I need to do anything before you arrive for the survey?
No preparation is needed. We will inspect the gutters, the fascia and soffit behind them, and the downpipes, and give you a written, fixed price on the spot. The survey is free and carries no obligation to proceed.
Is scaffolding needed for a gutter replacement?
Most gutter replacement work on a standard Cork house is done from ladders. Scaffolding is only brought in where the building is very high or on a busy street where pedestrian safety requires it. Where scaffolding is needed it is priced as a separate line on the quote, never buried in the overall figure.
