*What the assessors actually checked, and how to run the same checks on any roofer*

Munster Gutters has been named one of the six best roof repair services in Cork by Best in Ireland, in a review published on 28 August 2026. The assessors scored us 5 out of 5 on all four of their headings: background, range of services, procedures, and customer feedback. The full listing is here: 6 of the Best Roof Repair Services In Cork.

We are a guttering company first. Gutters, fascia and soffits are what we do most days across the six Munster counties. Roof repair sits beside that work because the two jobs meet at the eaves, and because a homeowner with a leak does not want to ring two firms. So being recognised for the roofing side, by people who checked the paperwork rather than the marketing, is worth writing down.

The more useful part is the method. Best in Ireland published what they assessed on, and those four headings happen to be a sound checklist for anyone hiring a roofer in Cork. Below is what each one means in practice, what our answer is, and how you can run the same check on whoever you ring next.

The short version

  • Best in Ireland named Munster Gutters one of six recommended roof repair services in Cork on 28 August 2026, scoring us 5 out of 5 for background, range of services, procedures and customer feedback.
  • Their four assessment headings map neatly onto the four things a homeowner should verify before letting anyone on a roof.
  • Every credential we hold is checkable in a public register: company number 782157, VAT IE4415315DH, D-U-N-S 76-397-4774, and €6.5 million public liability cover.
  • Our guarantee is written, not verbal: a minimum of 3 years on repair work, up to 10 years on major repairs, and 10 years on replacement work.
  • A listing is a starting point, not a substitute for your own checks. Ask for the company number and the insurance certificate regardless of who recommended the firm.

1. Background: can you verify the company exists

This is the check most people skip, and it is the one that filters out the largest share of the field. Roofing in Ireland attracts operators who trade under a mobile number and a magnetic van sign, take a deposit, and are unreachable by the time the render dries.

Munster Gutters has been trading since 2010. Company Registration Office number 782157. VAT number IE4415315DH. D-U-N-S number 76-397-4774. Public liability insurance of €6.5 million. All four of those are checkable by you, today, without asking us.

Run the same check yourself. Ask any roofer for their company registration number and look it up on the CRO register. Ask for the insurance certificate as a PDF and read the expiry date and the cover amount on it. If a firm cannot produce either within an hour, that is your answer. An uninsured contractor falling from your roof becomes your problem, not theirs.

2. Range of services: is the repair the right repair

A firm that only fits new roofs will find you need a new roof. A firm that only cleans gutters will find the gutters are the problem. The reason range matters is that it removes the incentive to make your job fit the one thing on the van.

We cover gutter cleaning, repair, replacement and installation, fascia and soffit work, flat roofing, and roof repair, across Cork, Limerick, Kerry, Waterford, Clare and Tipperary. In Cork that includes the Georgian and Victorian terraces in the city with cast-iron rainwater goods, protected structures and conservation areas under Cork City Council, and the coastal exposure at Cobh, Kinsale, Clonakilty and Skibbereen where marine-grade aluminium earns its cost. We have worked on heritage buildings, including Bank of Ireland properties.

Run the same check yourself. Describe the symptom rather than the solution. Say "water is running down the inside of the gable wall after heavy rain" instead of "I need a new roof". A firm worth hiring will ask questions before quoting, and will sometimes tell you the answer is a €200 clean rather than a €12,000 job.

3. Procedures: is the price written down before work starts

Verbal quotes are how disputes start. So are verbal guarantees.

Our process is a free survey, a clear written quote with a fixed price, and a written guarantee issued with the work. On repairs that guarantee is a minimum of 3 years, rising to 10 years on major repairs. On replacement work it is 10 years. Manufacturer warranties on materials sit on top of that. Where the job is an insurance claim, we document the damage with timestamped photographs and deal with the loss adjuster directly, because the first 48 hours after storm damage usually decide the settlement.

Run the same check yourself. Ask three things before you agree to anything: what is the total price, what is the guarantee in years and in writing, and what happens to the price if you open the roof and find something worse. A firm that answers all three plainly is a firm that has answered them before.

4. Customer feedback: is the evidence specific

Review counts are easy to inflate and hard to verify. We have 27 five-star reviews. That is not hundreds, and we do not claim hundreds.

Run the same check yourself. Read the reviews rather than counting them. Specific ones are worth more than glowing ones. A review that names the estate, the job and the month is a real customer. Twenty reviews in a fortnight, all four words long, are not.

What this does and does not mean

A third-party listing is a reasonable filter. It is not a warranty, and it is not a substitute for the four checks above. Best in Ireland assessed us and five other Cork firms, and any of the six is a defensible starting point. What we would rather you take from this is the checklist, because it works on firms nobody has written about.

If the answer to a check is unclear, ask again. If it is still unclear, ring someone else.
